The Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR) says it has sealed additional six filling stations in Zamfara state for selling petrol above official price of N145 per litre and other offences.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the DPR, had in the last two weeks, sealed seven filling stations in the state over hoarding and selling above official price.
Speaking to newsmen in Gusau on Friday, February 24, Mr Aliyu Usman, the Team Leader of Kaduna Zonal Task Force, said that three of the six stations were selling the product at between N155 and N160 per litre.
He said that two stations were using expired licence, while one was sealed for hoarding.
“We are in Zamfara State to monitor petroleum supply and marketing as one of the major responsibilities of the DPR.
“We observed various malpractices such as hoarding and diversion of the petroleum products, price hike, under dispensing and neglecting directives on safety in most of the filling stations in the state.
“Based on our findings, majority of the fillings stations are involved in malpractices,” he said.
“We are going to punish them in line with the Petroleum Act and DPR Guidelines. We will continue with the inspection in Zamfara to ensure effective compliance by the marketers.
“We will make sure that we put marketers in check because the consumers are suffering and DPR will not continue to allow some unlawful marketers to make things difficult for the people,” he said.
Usman directed the owners of the affected filling stations to report at the DPR Zonal Office in Kaduna for more explanations on their actions.
He urged marketers in the state to shun sharp practices and follow the rules and regulations guiding their businesses.
NAN reports that many filling stations shut their gates during the period of DPR inspection.
